About Us

Our Church History.

The roots of RiverCity Family Church go back to 1934 when a series of meetings were held in the old Customs House building in Queen Street, Brisbane. A visiting evangelist by the name of John Hewitt commenced services there as part of the outreach for the Apostolic Church in Australia.

Despite the interruptions of war, a church was established and a building purchased in what is now an art gallery in Brunswick Street, Fortitude Valley. In the years that followed, this local congregation met in several locations around the city of Brisbane, from the Valley to Dorrington, then settling for some 16 years in Auchenflower before relocating to the present building in The Gap during 1998.

Peter and Joy Constantine have been serving as the Senior Ministers of the church since 1996.

The Apostolic Church, Australia

Within the Pentecostal movement there are several denominations or families of churches which have arisen, and the Apostolic Church is one of these. It began as an outreach of the Welsh Revival in 1904-1905, and now has churches in over 50 countries. The Apostolic Church Australia had its beginnings in Perth in 1929.

The Apostolic Church holds to all the early creeds of historic Christianity and is in perfect harmony with Orthodox Christian doctrine. It is also in agreement with most other pentecostal churches. Like them it believes that worship should be vibrant, and that God's supernatural power is available for all Christians for daily living.

We believe in:

1. The one true and living God who eternally exists in three persons in unity: Father, Son and Holy Spirit.

2. The Divine Inspiration and authority of the Holy Scriptures.

3. The original perfection of creation; the inherent corruption of humanity through the fall; the necessity of repentance and regeneration by grace and through faith in Christ alone, and the eternal separation from God of the finally unrepentant.

4. The virgin birth, sinless life, atoning death, triumphant resurrection, ascension and continuing intercession of our Lord Jesus Christ, His second coming and eternal kingdom reign.

5. The justification and sanctification of believers through the finished work of Christ, their security as they remain in Him, and their future resurrection in an incorruptible body.

6. The sacrament of baptism by immersion, and of the Lord’s supper.

7. The baptism of the Holy Spirit for believers with supernatural signs, empowering the Church for it’s mission in the world.

8. The gifts of the Holy Spirit for the building up of the Church and ministry to the world.

9. Christ’s leadership of the Church through the ascension ministries of the apostles, prophets,            evangelists, pastors and teachers, for the unity,  maturity and growth of the Church.

10. The privilege and responsibility of wise stewardship of all that God has given, including the practice of tithing to the local church.
